OUR STORY

Founded by a group of passionate theatre professionals, Bardo Theatre Company was established to redefine how we experience and engage with live performance. Rooted in the belief that theatre can reveal the essence of what it means to be human, Bardo combines body, mind, and spirit to create transformative storytelling experiences. Inspired by the Tibetan term "bardo" which signifies a transitional state for the soul between life and death, our company seeks to be a bridge between tradition and innovation, the individual and the community, and the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Since its inception, Bardo has been committed to producing compelling, ensemble-driven work that excites a new generation of theatre lovers. We specialize in projects that challenge and inspire, offering a mix of classic works, contemporary plays, and original pieces. Bardo also prioritizes professional development and community education, hosting workshops and programs designed to equip artists and audiences alike with tools to explore their creativity and connect with one another.

In January 2023 Bardo co-produced the New England premier of Is Edward Snowden Single? by Kate Cortesi directed by Tyler Christie. The production recently won the Best Ensemble award (Artport NH) and was nominated by local theater audiences for 10 BroadwayWorld New Hampshire Awards, including: Best Play, Best Director, Best Performance in a Play, Best Supporting Performer in a Play, and Favorite Theatre Company. In March 2024 Bardo co-produced The Aliens by Annie Baker to great reviews and earned nominations as Semi-Finalists for the New Hampshire Theatre Awards for Best Professional Production of a Play, Best Direction of a Professional Play and Best Lighting Design for a Professional Production.
